Google Now Has An Alarm That Can Wake You Up To Keep You From Missing Your Stop On Public Transportation

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 02:36 PM PDT

zzzzzz It's Saturday night. You've spent the last six hours partaking of the fruit of the vine in pleasant company (read: you're so drunk that your date is getting a contact buzz). Being the public-minded and responsible drinker you are, you elect to take the bus home. All seventeen stops. After a night out with your friends Morgan, Daniels, and Cuervo, it's difficult to stay awake on the rolling bus. You miss your stop and end up so far from home that you might as well stay on the bus and wait to get off in the morning.

Google Search On Android Is Having Trouble With, You Know, Searching For Many Users

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 12:47 PM PDT

unnamed For the last several days, an unknown number of Android users have been getting inconsistent results when using the built-in Google Search app on their phones and tablets. And by "inconsistent," I mean that they aren't getting any at all, instead being greeted by the enigmatic message "can't load search results" whenever they try to use it. While none of the Android Police staff have experienced this, threads on Google Code, Google Groups, and Reddit continue to receive replies.

Netflix update makes it even easier to binge watch your favorite shows

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 11:08 AM PDT

The latest update to the Netflix for Android app has improved what they call the "post-play" experience, making it even easier to jump to the next episode in a series. While Netflix users have long enjoyed auto-play of the next episode, the new version slaps a bright red "Play next episode" button on the screen as the credits start to roll, saving you those extra few seconds when it comes to binging through whatever you're watching.

Samsung Galaxy F with metal body allegedly pictured in the wild

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 11:06 AM PDT

Samsung Galaxy F evleaks

Rumors of a more premium, Samsung Galaxy device have been escalating in recent days. Earlier this week, @evleaks tweeted a leaked press image (pictured above) for what could be the Samsung Galaxy F, Samsung's new smartphone featuring an aluminum construction. The render seemed to confirm those rumors, showing a brushed aluminum back, not too unlike the faux metal material found on the LG G3.

Samsung Galaxy F wild leak 1

Today, the folks at PhoneArena have nabbed some pictures of the Samsung Galaxy F as it appeared in the wild. The phone, according to the tipster, carries a Snapdragon 801 inside, but only because it's an early pre-production model. The final version that will be available in stores is said to house a Snapdragon 805 with rumors pointing to a quad HD 1440×2560 resolution display, 3GB of RAM and an improved 16MP OIS shooter.

Samsung Galaxy F wild leak 2

Something tells us no matter what they call it, this isn't going to sit too well with those who have recently purchased the Galaxy S5. If Samsung does releases a higher-end device a few short months after their main flagship, would any Galaxy S5 owners out there feel duped?

Kiwanuka Is A Beautiful Low-Poly Physics Puzzler Inspired By Lemmings

Kiwanuka is a Lemmings-inspired physics puzzler that we've been looking out for on Android since we heard about it on iOS. Thanks to a partnership between original devs CMA MegaCorp and the developers at Jakyl, the game has finally made its way to our favorite platform, and it's awesome.

Basically, you play the guy or gal in charge of saving a crowd of Kiwanuka, using a magical staff that whips the humanoid critters into shape, arranging them in tall, swaying towers you can use to climb through low-poly geometric terrain.

Netflix Update Adds 'Post-Play Experience' For Easier Binge-Watching On Android (Chromecast On The Way)

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 09:43 AM PDT

One of my few complaints with the Netflix app for Android has always been that the app makes it more difficult than it should be to indulge in binge-watching behavior. Watching episode after episode of a TV show meant either going back into the episode list again, or hitting the show's tile from the home view again, and neither was ideal.

With a recent update, however, Netflix has added what it calls a "post-play" experience, which gives users the number and title of the next episode, along with a big red "play next episode" button.

First invitations to purchase a OnePlus One finally get sent out

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 08:35 AM PDT

If you were trying to get an invitation to purchase the OnePlus One, check your inbox. The company has announced that they've finally sent out the first round of invites to potential buyers, which will allow a handful of potential customers to get their hands on the black 64 GB version of the device. The white 16 GB version will come a bit later, and if everything goes according to schedule, just about anyone should be able to grab a device with an invite by the end of June. Fingers crossed, right?

Anybody get their invitation yet?

Google will soon introduce “Nearby” to send you notifications when you’re around certain people or places

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 08:35 AM PDT

Google Nearby

Lately we've seen Google push for location-sensitive reminders in Google Now, especially with the monthly walking counts and parking spot reminders, but it looks like they're close to finally adding in contact-based reminders and notifications. In short, Google Now will be able to give you a notification about something whenever you're around a particular person or place.

According to Android Police, the functionality for Nearby is going to be baked into a Play Store Services update, since it will rely heavily on checking some of the hardware on your phone to tell when you're around another person. Nearby will need location history and location reporting turned on, and will be able to periodically check things like your device microphone, WiFi, and Bluetooth features to figure out where you are. Now, that obviously sounds pretty invasive, but Google looks like they're serious about protecting personal information with Nearby.

Instead of your device just beaming off your information to any smartphone in a two mile radius, the information is sent to Google's servers, where it will be matched with other nearby users. If the users are near each other, they'll be given a proximity notification from Google, not from the other device. It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good solution for those of you that have privacy concerns over this kind of thing. Plus, you'll still be able to turn the feature off and control who can see when you're nearby.

There's a lot Google can do with a feature like this, from targeting Google Wallet offers to people near a particular place, to home automation, to allowing you to set up a reminder to give your buddy back the 20 bucks you owe him the next time you see him. We aren't going to see this feature implemented in the immediate future, but keep your eyes open in the next few months.

Bubble Witch 2 Saga APK

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 08:25 AM PDT

Bubble Witch 2 Saga

Bubble Witch 2 Saga comes to android with new and improved game modes. Much better than the first one; more colorful, easier to navigate and not as dull and gloomy as Bubble Witch Saga 1. There are more new challenges and physics; you get to earn gold bars more and can use them for extra plays. The first one gave you coins, but you don't get to use them? Bubble Witch 2 Saga is a great bubble game with excellent graphics and smooth play. Challenging, but not too hard. There are ghosts or animals to rescue by popping the bubbles that surround them. See how high your score can climb but make sure you have a steady hand and a good since of aim because it's tricky. Take on this epic saga alone or play with friends to see who can get the highest score!

If you like puzzle games and shooting games, this game is putting the two together will be brilliant for you. Bubble Witch 2 Saga is a casual game from the makers of Candy Crush Saga. Great game and best of all you don't have to wait so long for lives to regenerate. The game is about Stella and her cats which need your help to fend off the dark spirits that are plaguing their land. You have to travel the realm bursting as many bubbles as you can in this exciting adventure. Win levels and free Witch Country piece by piece. It is a lot of fun and has a bit of the same concepts as Farm Heroes Saga (levels, lives) and can be very addictive. Getting through the levels is easier and not same puzzle over and again.

Bubble Witch 2 Saga need strategy and good hand eye coordination. This is way better than the first instalment- the layout and rules are more in sync with the other king games. A refreshing change from the first game takes a bit more guesswork to bounce bubbles off the walls into the right spot. Bubble Witch 2 Saga is a good game overall. It is really fun playing, this the best part is you have to complete it in given chance that makes it more exiting and challenging. Enjoy your time with lots of fun popping bubble's and saving the animals.

Get your Android 4.4.3 OTA update for Moto G (GSM) and Moto X variants

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 06:45 AM PDT

Motorola G Hands On AA (8 of 17)

Android 4.4.3 is slowly making its way towards all the devices officially blessed with a (near) stock Android experience, including Nexus phones and tablets, Google Play Edition devices, and Motorola's Moto lineup.

While variants of the Moto X got first in queue for Android 4.4.3 earlier this week, the Moto G isn't left behind. An incremental over the air update is heading towards US GSM versions of the phone, and one user has captured the update file and made it available for everyone on the XDA-Developers forums.

The 169MB update brings Android 4.4.3, but also a few other Moto-specific goodies, including the new Moto Alert app (introduced on the Moto E) and the ability to pause and resume video recording.

Head over here to get your flashable Android 4.4.3 OTA file for the US-version GSM Moto G. If you have a device from a different location, you will probably need to flash an US Android 4.4.2 firmware first in order to be able to install the 4.4.3 update. Details here.

Users of unlocked GSM, T-Mobile, and the Brazilian Moto X, are also in for a surprise – OTAs for their specific variants can be found here.

For all devices, make sure you are running the proper firmware before installing the Android 4.4.3 OTAs. If you need a walkthrough, our handy sideloading guide will give you all the instructions you need to safely install a new Android version on your device. Enjoy!

Oh, look, it’s the Moto 360 on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 06:32 AM PDT

We all know the Moto 360 is coming "soon". How soon, you ask? Pretty soon, if you think that at least one tech journalist is wearing it right now, and on national television of all places.

Joshua Topolsky, the editor in chief of The Verge, is Jimmy Fallon's resident tech guru. As a recurrent guest on Jimmy Fallon's shows, Josh shows off new gadgets and sometimes demoes them together with Jimmy and his guests. Yesterday, Josh demoed a Lytro camera and Sony's new VR headset, but what really caught our eye was the Moto 360 that he was so casually sporting.

Oh, look, it

You can clearly tell it's a Moto 360, and, at one point, the device lights up with a sleek neon time face. And, on its official Facebook page, The Verge appears to be teasing the device, so this could be a planned hype-building move, rather than a simple slip-up.

The Verge is in great relationship with Motorola and Google, and has received devices for exclusive advance testing several times before. This is probably what's happening here, as well, meaning that the Moto 360's official debut can't be far. Google I/O, just start already!

Google Nearby will reportedly let your phone tell when it’s close to other devices

Posted: 07 Jun 2014 05:42 AM PDT

nexus 4 galaxy nexus nexus 10 nexus 7 aa 7 1600

Google is reportedly working on a feature that would allow Android devices to make their presence known and detect when they are in the proximity of other "people, places, and things".

Discovered by the folks at Android Police , the feature will reportedly be called Nearby and be part of a future Play Services update, and therefore available to all users without requiring an OS update.

Nearby will be part of the Location settings on Android devices, just like Google Location Reporting. Here's the text that will greet users when turning the feature on:

Nearby lets you connect, share, and do more with people, places, and things near you. When Nearby is turned on for your account, Google can periodically turn on the mic, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and similar features on all your current and future devices. Google+ and other Google services need this access to help you connect, share, and more. When you turn on Nearby, you're also turning on Location History for your account and Location Reporting for this device. Google needs these services to periodically store your location data for use by Nearby, other Google services, and more.

When turned on, Nearby will periodically switch on your mic, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and presumably GPS and other sensors, in order to infer if other devices are nearby. Presumably, users will have control over what devices get to see their presence, and the feature can be turned off completely.

While this feature looks similar to location tracking services like Foursquare and Google's defunct Latitude, it's more than that, as it's completely automatic and it runs in the background. Moreover, being part of Play Services means that other apps could tap into Nearby data for various purposes.

Nearby could be a preparation for the Internet of Things era – your device could automatically detect the presence of not only smartphones and computers, but also of thermostats, smartwatches, smart home systems, cars, and so on. All without con

It's not clear from Android Police's report when will Nearby roll out, but with Google I/O 2014 just around the corner, it's possible we'll see a substantial Play Services update announced on stage, with Nearby as a tent-pole feature.

Google said to be interested in acquiring Songza, but why?

Posted: 06 Jun 2014 04:32 PM PDT

Google's shopping spree is far from over. The Search Giant's mission seems to be to take the whole industry, and Songza may just be their very next acquisition. New rumors of such a deal have just emerged, with the New York Post citing "two sources".

These anonymous leaksters swear Google has been talking to Songza, but the latter may not find the offer too appealing. The Mountain View tech company is rumored to be offering only $15 million, an abismal number compared to Spotify and Pandora's estimated prices. Songza's competitors are appraised at about $4 and $5 billion, relatively.

It is true Songza's numbers are much lower than its competitors, but 5.5 million active users is nothing to scoff at. Even when you consider the 77 million Pandora users and 10 million Spotify users, the numbers just don't add up. But we are not here to talk business, what we really want to know is why Google would be interested in said company.

google logo Meneame Comunicacion

What does Google want with Songza?

Google Play Music All Access may be a good subscription service if what you seek is a complete collection of songs and albums. You can find nearly all music in there, but the streaming radio service is lacking. To be more specific, Google's curating software is nowhere close to Songza's.

Songza screenies

This service caters music based not only on similar artists and music genres, but it chooses them based on moods and environments. This means you can enjoy radio stations labeled as "working in an office", "working out" or "getting fired up". The service will then stream songs that relate to your desired mood.

This acquisition may very well be more than just about music. It could be about the unexpected joy one finds in discovering one's favorite song… it's about music discovery. This is why Pandora became so popular – it's unpredictable, yet fun. Google Play Music All Access will need this in the future.

Motorola offering Moto X “try before you buy” program for June 8th, also adds 64GB option

Posted: 06 Jun 2014 04:09 PM PDT

Moto X

The Motorola Moto X+1 is due out sometime towards the end of the summer, but just because a successor is right around the corner doesn't mean the original Moto X isn't still worth picking up.

In an effort to attract more customers, Motorola is offering the opportunity to customize a Moto X to your liking using the Moto Maker on June 8th — while supplies last. They'll then ship the phone out to you and give you 2 weeks to try out the phone, charging just $.01 up-front for the honor. Obviously if you like the phone you customized, you can keep it, pay the full price and you'll even get 30% off on accessories. If you decide you don't want to buy it, you simply return the phone when the time is up and you owe nothing else.

Motorola is also offering a small change to the Moto Maker: you can soon order a 64GB model. While we had heard rumors of the 64GB model for a while, Motorola has now confirmed the new storage option will roll out in time for their only-day only "try for $.99" offer and will cost $100 more than the 16GB base version. The 64GB model will be available for Moto X handsets on all major networks with the exception of Verizon.

Bottom-line, if you've been thinking about getting the Moto X, now could be the perfect time to do it.
