The best photo editors for Android

Posted: 15 Mar 2015 01:52 PM PDT

There's a very important step between taking a photo and sharing it on your network of choice, and it can easily become the most enjoyable part of the mobile photography experience.

Smartphone cameras can do some incredible things nowadays, with new and even more amazing features being announced all the time. While it's important to have the tools to take a good photo, being able to edit that image afterwards can often be just as important. Whether you've got a breathtaking panorama of a city skyline or you're putting googley eye stickers on the photo of that guy who fell asleep during the team meeting, having a photo editor on your phone is a big deal. Having the right photo editor on your phone is an even bigger deal, and that's what we're talking about today.

While there's plenty to be said for apps that are all inclusive, we're focusing on the best standalone photo editors for Android, regardless of what kind of camera you have and what skill level you think you are at.

Hangouts and Google+

Posted: 15 Mar 2015 11:07 AM PDT

Instant messengers and video chatting go hand in hand with social networks.

Facebook has Facebook Messenger, Twitter has direct messaging, and Google+ has Hangouts. However, Hangouts is a bit more than just the private messenger behind Google+ and Gmail, as Hangouts also powers one of the better live video broadcasting platforms on the net right now. Hangouts is an app with many tricks, talents, and features, and as a Google product, it crisscrosses several platforms, but none so much and so well as Google+.

So, anyone wanna hangout?

Spring is five days away. Or, ya know, it's already here. So let's remember to get outside and try to enjoy it a little bit, m'kay? (I'm writing this from the back porch, cup of coffee in hand, actually.)

Leaked images surface online showcasing the design of the Sony Xperia Cosmos

Renowned leaker @Upleaks took to his Twitter account earlier today to share not one, but two leaked images of an upcoming Sony Xperia-branded smartphone, which appears to be targeted at selfie enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, we don't have much information about the device in question, other than that it's dubbed the Xperia Cosmos, carries the model number E5306, packs a large front-facing camera with an LED flash, features a MediaTek MT6752 processor and ships running Lollipop.

That's it, really. We expect to see an awful lot more of this smartphone over the course of the next few weeks, though, as these images suggest that the device has already entered internal testing, which means that an FCC filing is on the horizon very shortly.

Because there clearly weren't enough apps that help you count your steps and/or compare them with your friends, HTC has filled the imperceptible void. Fun Fit is a social fitness app where you and your participating Facebook friends (there are sure to be many!) pick "cute avatars" and compete in the time-honored contest of taking the most steps.

Despite their recent partnership with Under Armour, this would not seem to be a product of it.

Lollipop testing on Moto X 2013 Developer’s Edition commences

Some owners of the first generation Motorola Moto X smartphone are reporting they have received emails alerting them to a forthcoming soak test for their devices. The update that will be rolling out to those who choose to participate is expected to be an update to Android Lollipop.

This is welcome news to owners of the device since Lollipop has been delayed due to issues with the processor used in the Moto X 2013. The soak test is a good sign that Motorola is very close to rolling out an official update. However, owners of the device that purchased them through specific carriers will have to wait a while longer for carrier certification to be completed.
