The original Tomb Raider officially arrives on Android, only 99 cents on Google Play

Posted: 01 Apr 2015 03:33 PM PDT

Tomb Raider box art

Tomb Raider has seen countless iterations since its debut on the OG PlayStation console back in 1996. It was a time when consoles could barely push polygons, but that didn't stop young boys all over the world from fantasizing about what was under that turquoise colored tank top (and yes, there have been countless nude mods).

Since then, the game's lead protagonist — Lara Croft — has grown into a sort of pop icon, appearing in films and landing herself on just about every home/mobile console out there. Chances are if you never played the original, you've no doubt controlled Lara in one of her many adventures spanning across the PC, Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, or her more recent console forays.

Today, Lara Croft officially comes to Android devices in the original title that made her famous: Tomb Raider I. The game features the same third-person gameplay that made the original such a hit, with Lara traversing (not so) detailed 3D landscapes, shooting dangerous Lego shaped animals or humans, and of course solving puzzles all for the chance at scoring rare artifacts.

Tomb Raider screenshot 2

Square Enix is offering up the title for only 99 cents without any of that fremium crap, so it definitely wont break the bank. With slightly improved high-res graphics, Lara never looked this good. Well, not by 1996 standards anyway. The game weighs in at 320MB and supports both MOGA Ace Power and Logitech PowerShell gamepads.

Acer says the new Chromebase will be available in the second quarter in North American and Asia Pacific markets, although they have not provided any pricing information.

Quick Look: Poetic Revolution Hybrid Case for HTC One M9

Posted: 01 Apr 2015 07:37 AM PDT

Poetic's heavy duty Revolution hybrid case makes a comeback with the HTC One M9, but is it worth the investment?

When it comes to cases for the HTC One M9 that can hold up to wear and tear, we usually look for popular names like OtterBox, Urban Armor Gear, Spigen and Trident. Those guys have been around a while, but Poetic is no stranger to the case market, either. Their Revolution hybrid case for the HTC One M9 is nothing short of a beast in its own respect, and definitely worth a closer look.

OnePlus ‘game changer’ is the DR-1 drone

Posted: 01 Apr 2015 07:33 AM PDT

OnePlus said that its "game changer" would make its debut in April, and now that April 1 has rolled around, that's exactly what's happened.

The OnePlus DR-1 is a drone that, yes, is an April Fools' joke. Unlike most other April Fools' products that we're going to see today, though, OnePlus actually sold its drone to consumers for $19.99. The package includes the DR-1, a drone with four spinning blacks, orientation LEDs, and a 100mAh battery that'll give you five to eight minutes of flying time and can be recharged in 20 minutes. The package also includes a control pad.

Unfortunately, because the DR-1 is an April Fools' joke product, OnePlus only offered a "limited quantity" of its drone. That scarcity combined with the DR-1's $20 price tag means that the drone sold out quickly.

Many folks speculated that OnePlus's "game changer" could be some sort of gaming device or controller, but it turned out to be a simple prank. At least some people are going to benefit from the whole joke by getting a real drone on the cheap, though.

Were any of you able to get a OnePlus DR-1 before it sold out?

Verizon opens pre-sale for Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and HTC One M9

Posted: 01 Apr 2015 07:03 AM PDT

galaxy s6 vs htc one m9

Verizon customers can now pre-order two of 2015's hottest phone. First up are the dynamic duo of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, both of which can be had in all storage variants of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Here's how the prices break down for those two:

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Price

  • 32GB: $24.99 per month w/ Edge, $200 on-contract, $600 outright

  • 64GB: $29.16 per month w/ Edge, $300 on-contract, $700 outright

  • 128GB: $33.33 per month w/ Edge, $400 on-contract, $800 outright

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Price

  • 32GB: $29.16 per month w/ Edge, $300 on-contract, $700 outright

  • 64GB: $33.33 per month w/ Edge, $400 on-contract, $800 outright

  • 128GB: $37.49 per month w/ Edge, $500 on-contract, $900 outright

That's the cost of increased storage and innovation, folks (even if we know deep down inside additional storage alone doesn't add hundreds of dollars to a phone's price tag). The device will ship in time for Samsung's global April 10th launch so you won't have to worry about missing out on a weekend of fun with your new phone.

Also up for pre-sale today is the HTC One M9, which also launches April 10th. There's only one model — 32GB — and it can be had for 24.99 per month w/ Edge, $200 on-contract, or $600 outright. Check that one out right here, and be sure to read our full HTC One M9 review to see if it's worth picking up over its 2014 predecessor.

Sports, music, TED now Chromecast compatible

Posted: 01 Apr 2015 06:33 AM PDT

A new batch of apps have added casting capabilities so users can enjoy native support for their Chromecast devices. Headlining the newest group of apps with Chromecast support is TED, a popular service that provides TED Talks, presentations from a variety of presenters on inspirational topics. Users should find plenty of new content available as the annual TED conference just wrapped up, although older material is available through the app as well.

Sports fans will find the Pac-12 Networks app now supports casting. Pac-12 Networks carries 30 different sports throughout the year including major sports like football, basketball, soccer and baseball along with a whole host of other sports events.

Music fans have a couple new choices, one of which is the MTV app. Yes, it may be questionable as to whether MTV is really a music platform any longer, but fans of the network will enjoy access to programs like Finding Carter or Catfish. Chromecast support is now available in the Qello Concerts app as well. Qello provides full-length concert footage and music documentaries. Qello is a pay service, but Chromecast owners can take advantage of a special all-access free pass deal for one month, available through April 19, 2015.
