Sony Xperia Z3 returns to T-Mobile’s store as quietly as it disappeared

Posted: 24 Apr 2015 02:12 PM PDT

After quietly disappearing from T-Mobile's online store earlier this month, the Sony Xperia Z3 has reappeared in the shop just as quietly.

You can once again buy a Sony Xperia Z3 from T-Mobile's online shop, 18 days after it was pulled and T-Mo said that it was "no longer available." What's more, the Z3 is now cheaper than it was before it was pulled. The phone now costs $0 down and 24 payments of $20.83 or $499.92 full retail, whereas before it was pulled it cost $0 down and 24 payments of $26.25 each or $630 full retail.

So why did the Xperia Z3 actually disappear from T-Mobile's store? We'll probably never know, but hey, what matters now is that it's back. And since we don't know when the Xperia Z4 might launch in the U.S. — if it ever will — we're happy to see that the Xperia Z3 is once again easy for consumers to pick up.

SeriesGuide Returns To The Play Store With Modified Screenshots To Appease Google

Posted: 24 Apr 2015 10:56 AM PDT

SeriesGuide-ThumbPopular app SeriesGuide was pulled from the Play Store without warning yesterday, but it's already back today. As expected, the problem was the use of (technically) copyrighted content in the screenshots. The developers have rectified this by making the screenshots incredibly boring.

Instead of the promo images for all the TV series listed in the app (which doesn't actually provide access to this content), the app now just has colored blocks.

Luxottica CEO says new Google Glass is coming soon

Posted: 24 Apr 2015 09:57 AM PDT

In mid-January, it was announced that Tony Fadell had been put in charge of the Google Glass initiative and that the program had moved out of the Google X exploratory labs and given a full lease on life. While some took that as the end of Google's wearable technology, many saw it for what it was: a step in the right direction.

Now, after months of quiet settled over Glass, the Chief Executive Officer of Luxottica, Massimo Vian, has confirmed that a new version of the wearable will be unveiled soon. According to the Wall Street Journal, this information was shared at a recent company meeting. If Luxottica doesn't sound familiar to you, you've more than likely heard of the companies under its wing, including Oakley and Ray-Ban.

As it stands, any details about what the new Google Glass might look like or features it might have are unknown. There haven't been any grumblings that Google could show off a new Glass at this year's I/O conference, which is set to take place at the end of May. It would stand to reason that the new Glass is probably still in its early days, though.

Are you looking forward to the next version of Glass?

Galaxy Button Lights App Finally Lets Galaxy S6 Users Change The Capacitive Button Timeout

Posted: 24 Apr 2015 09:52 AM PDT

unnamedIn their infinite wisdom, most US carriers opted to remove the Galaxy S6 settings to change the backlight timeout for the capacitive back and overview buttons (AT&T didn't for some reason). This may seem like a minor point, but it's actually rather annoying. Now there's an app that can fix that, and it's free.

Android takes a piss on Apple in this Google Maps Easter egg

Posted: 24 Apr 2015 06:47 AM PDT

In case your day got started on the wrong foot, here's a bit of tech humor to lighten things up. A humorously odd Easter egg has been found in Google Maps, one that includes a picture of the Android logo relieving itself right onto Apple's logo. The addition likely came from a rogue Googler, and Google has become aware of the issue and is working to rectify it. Nonetheless, the Easter egg is still around and you can find it by following the source link below.

While the competition between Google and Apple has traditionally been high, we can't imagine that this sort of thing would be sanctioned by the higher-ups at Google. That being said, it's an amusing sight that certainly made us chuckle.

Send directions from your computer to your phone with ‘send directions’ Google search

Posted: 23 Apr 2015 06:31 PM PDT

Remember that feature that Google introduced last week that let you locate your lost Android phone just by typing "find my phone" into a search box? Well now El Goog has added another Android-specific feature to its search bar.

If you navigate to Google and type "send directions" into the search box, you'll be able to enter a location that you'd like to navigate to and then send directions to your Android phone. When you unlock your handset, you'll be presented with that location in Google Maps and then you can navigate to the place.

SendDirections_1024x512

This feature worked really well for me, with my phone buzzing with the Google Maps location seconds after I clicked "Send directions to my phone" on my laptop. While there's already a few other ways for you quickly bring up directions on your phone, this new method lets you use the large screen of your computer to find the place that you'd like to navigate to and then send the directions to your phone lightning fast. So the next time you're at your computer and you need directions, give this a try.

OnePlus Resumes CM12s Rollout

Posted: 23 Apr 2015 04:39 PM PDT

OnePlus CM12

If you happened to miss out on the initial roll out of CM12 for the OnePlus One don't fret, it's available once again.  OnePlus had paused the OTA in order to throw in a new feature, "Okay OnePlus."  This feature essentially replaces Google's "Okay Google" hot word that is readily available on various Android devices.

While Cyanogen and OnePlus claim that this was the only reason for the halted OTA, chances are they've done some other tinkering with the software as well.  Hopefully that means less bugs and less battery drain as many have been experiencing the latter since joining the Lollipop club.

The update is a large one so you'll probably want to connect to WiFi to get it.  If you haven't received a notification for the update, jump into your settings as you should be able to get it through a manual check.

Does not Commute 1.0.0 APK

Posted: 23 Apr 2015 03:56 PM PDT

A new Android game from the makers of Smash Hit let you think, connected with driving and commuting way through the city. Does not Commute is a strategic driving game that lets you maneuver everyone through the city with a minimum of accidents/fatalities. You will essentially have to drive hot dog trucks, sports cars, school buses and dozens of other vehicles in a small town of the 1970's quickly devolves into traffic chaos.

Does not Commute

This game has a very fun concept and forces you to think, a very innovative and interesting traffic game. You play a stage, which is a map where you plan and drive routes one by one for each vehicle. As you do, the previously completed routes are played increasing the difficulty and number of cars on screen reducing road room and routes. Plan out your moves ahead of time don't be late, you'll find yourself grinning like a crazy person. It's very visually pleasing, and the controls function well and are responsive.

Does not Commute for Android, which runs on Android 2.3 and above, is available in all markets supported by the Google Play Store. There are several in-app purchases that will enable the ability to continue from checkpoints, so be careful with how you spend (or not spend) your money. You can also download Does not Commute APK (see source link below).
