New Xerox Easy Translator Service Lets You Send A Photo From Your Android Phone To A Printer And Have It Come Out In Another Language

Posted: 10 Mar 2016 01:20 PM PST

Xerox

Google Translate is old-hat. Today's generation of smartphone users don't want to type words into a text field and watch it appear in another language. They want to enter those characters into a word processor, spit them out onto fresh white printer paper, and feed that tree product into a Xerox machine.

Alternatively, they can send a picture of a document they've snapped a picture of. Either way, both of these possibilities are now available through the Xerox Easy Translator service launching today in Australia, Canada, Europe, South America, and the US.

[APK Download] Mr. Robot-Approved ProtonMail Gets An Official Android App, But For Some Reason It's Incompatible With Everything

image (4)Since Game of Thrones seems to revel in jerking us around and House of Cards is now disturbingly close to believable, USA's cyberpunk drama Mr. Robot is Android Police's pick for cable TV binge-watching. While it's not so deep in its own hacker lore that it's incomprehensible to the layman, it's surprisingly accurate in its realistic and often low-tech methods of showing hacking and counter-hacking techniques. One of those techniques is using ProtonMail, an encrypted email service that makes FBI analysts shake their fists like cartoon villains.

Deal: Huawei Watch deeply discounted today only, starts at $269

Posted: 10 Mar 2016 08:11 AM PST

The Huawei Watch remains our favorite Android Wear watch at the moment, with the one possible knock against it being its price point.

Today only on Amazon, that lone criticism is largely erased with a substantial price drop ($80-$130 off) on every variant of Huawei's impressive fledgling smartwatch effort.

As you probably remember, the Huawei Watch is due to receive its Marshmallow update today and is one of the few Android Wear watches with a speaker to take advantage of the ability to accept calls and play sounds directly from the device.

If you have been considering the Huawei Watch, this is the deepest discount we've seen to date and a great time to buy.

[APK Download] Hangouts 8.0 Adds Support For Android N's Bundled Notifications And Direct Reply

Posted: 10 Mar 2016 07:34 AM PST

hangouts-8-notification

Android N introduced two major changes in the way notifications are handled in the tray. On Marshmallow and prior, notifications from the same app were grouped into a single one and you couldn't take individual actions on them separately. You also couldn't directly reply to messages and other communications from the notification shade. Hangouts had circumvented the latter with the addition of Quick Reply in version 7, but it was just a temporary bandage to the problem.

Mediocre's Latest Game, DIRAC, Is A Scientific Take On Connect The Dots

DIRAC

Developer Mediocre knows that science makes for great gameplay. The small team has already produced popular titles such as Sprinkle and Smash Hit that utilize physics in ways to give each title its own unique and compelling experience.

DIRAC, Mediocre's latest release, is straightforward about its inspiration. The game's name comes from Paul Dirac, a prominent theoretic physicist who died in 1984, having long before shared the Nobel Prize for Physics with Erwin Schrödinger in 1933.

If you have long documents inside Google Docs, you've probably been annoyed many times by the lack of an easy way to skip through different sections or chapters. You could spend over a minute swiping through a long story for example to reach a chapter toward the end.

Google Docs' new outline feature solves this problem on both the web and Android. On the web, clicking Tools > Document outline triggers a pane to the left of the document that lists clickable headers for all the different sections.

Android N Has Landed!!!!

Posted: 09 Mar 2016 08:23 PM PST

Android N

Well this sure came out of nowhere.  Google has just released the Android N preview!

Google doesn't normally release these previews until I/O but they decided to change things up this year.  The idea is that by getting it out early, they'll be able to get some early feedback that they can potentially implement into the final version of the preview which will hit drop this summer.

So what's new in Android N?  Well the BIG addition is split-screen multi-tasking!  Samsung has had this feature for some time and there had been rumours for a while now that Google would implement it into Android and now it's here.  In addition, they've also brought picture in picture mode which will allow you to watch a video while in another app.  Curious to know how some less powerful phones handle this undoubtedly demanding feature.

Notifications have also received some tweaks.  You will have more ways to interact with notifications and the way they're grouped will also be changed up a little bit.

Now if you're really adventurous or possibly have a back up Nexus kicking around, Google has made this preview available to everyone.  By visiting g.co/androidbeta, you can download the preview over the air!

Now if all of that wasn't enough to get you excited, Google left us off with one last little goody.

So, the burning question that's on everyone's mind: what will the N release be named? We're nut tellin' you yet.

For some reason I'm craving some Nutella…..

Review: Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

Posted: 09 Mar 2016 06:37 PM PST

xperia-z5-premium

It's not entirely uncommon nowadays for OEMs to offer a couple of flagship handsets to cater to the needs of different users, and Sony has kept with this mantra for a few years now, offering a smaller counterpart in its Z series Compact models, accompanying the taller Z series handsets. Now, Sony is catering to those who want a larger handset, with its main selling point being that it's the first smartphone with a 4K Ultra HD display.

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium wouldn't be "premium" if it was affordable for most, so while it's the priciest of the Z5 range, is it worth the extra dough?

THE PROS

  • 4K display when it's in use
  • Commendable performance
  • Fast fingerprint reader
