Verizon offering new promos; now selling Samsung Galaxy View

Posted: 11 Mar 2016 03:08 PM PST

Verizon is fighting hard to stay competitive with the other carriers and today, the company is launching a whole host of new promos as well as a new tablet. We'll get things rolling with the promos. First up is a $100 bill credit for new Verizon customers who purchase a DROID Turbo, DROID Turbo 2, DROID Maxx 2, Samsung Galaxy S7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Again, this offer is only good for new Verizon customers.

The next offer is good for both existing and new Verizon customers, and it applies to the same phones as the previous offer. Customers who trade in a smartphone in good working condition and upgrade or add a line with one of the qualifying phones can get a $300 guaranteed trade-in value that's issued as a Verizon credit, so it can be used towards bills, device purchases and more.

Verizon is also offering a free Gear VR or Gear S2 to customers who purchase a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge. You will need to activate the free device on a two-year contract to receive this deal.

Finally, Verizon is offering up to $650 to cover the switching costs of those who come to Verizon. This can be used towards things like paying off your phone, covering early termination fees and any other costs that may accompany your switch to Verizon from another carrier.

Samsung Galaxy View

In addition to all of those offers, Verizon has begun selling Samsung's massive Galaxy View tablet. The Galaxy View is known for its 18.4-inch 1080p display, but other specs include a 1.6GHz octa-core Exynos processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage plus microSD card slot, 5700mAh battery, 4G LTE support and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This is priced at $599 full retail price or $499 on a two-year contract, though you could always break the cost up over monthly payments.

Deal: Save $50 on Nexus 5X and up to $100 on Nexus 6P

Posted: 11 Mar 2016 02:04 PM PST

Nexus fans aren't suffering from a lack of deals lately. While nothing is likely to unseat the Project Fi offer of a $199 Nexus 5X for new Project Fi customers, a $50 discount on the already low-priced Nexus 5X is not too shabby, and the Nexus 6P has a couple deals of its own.

Today you have two different options to save yourself $50 off either the 16GB or 32GB version of the 5X.

The first option is from B&H and includes free shipping and no sales tax as long as you aren't in New York. The only option they are missing is the Mint/Ice 32GB.

As it happens, the Google Store is celebrating its first birthday and is offering the exact same deal. You can check out the full complement of Nexus 5X options at the Google Store, As this is published the 16GB Mint/Ice version is the only one that is out of stock. Shipping is free, but you are going to be on the hook for sales tax.

Now, lest the Nexus 6P feel neglected, let's take a look at its offers.

B&H is upping the ante slightly for the pricier Nexus and is not only taking $50 off the price, but it's also throwing in a $50 gift card. Considering the wealth of products available at B&H, that's almost as good as cash. Again, there's free shipping and no tax for anyone not in New York.

And finally, the Nexus 6P direct from the Google Store. You will save the same $50 as with the Nexus 5X and, at the moment, you will still eligible for a $50 credit towards a Huawei Watch as well. Check out the full list of Nexus 6P options on the Google Store. The two big differences are the 128GB option that B&H doesn't carry and the Frost option.

If all this talk of the Android Beta Program has been too exciting for you, now is your chance to swim in the dangerous Android N waters.

Netflix 4.3 Update Delivers A Brighter Experience For Kids Using Android Tablets

Posted: 11 Mar 2016 01:45 PM PST

Netflix

Netflix is filled to the brim with shows people want to watch, including children. Thing is, the default experience is pretty dark, and that remains the case if you sign into the kid portion. The little ones may be flipping through pictures of Curious George and The Land Before Time, but they're doing so against a dark backdrop of black and red.

Samsung offering $30 gift card to Galaxy S7, S7 edge owners who use Samsung Pay

Posted: 11 Mar 2016 01:06 PM PST

Mobile payments are taking off in a big way and Samsung has sought to get in on the action with Samsung Pay. As the company launches its latest flagships, it's using the release as an opportunity to increase the amount of customers using Samsung Pay. In order to grow that number, Samsung is now offering a $30 gift card to Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners who make a purchase with Samsung Pay between March 11 and March 31.

Once they've made their purchase, users can choose a $30 gift card from one of five merchants: Best Buy, eBay, Whole Foods, Nike or Regal Entertainment. Once you choose your gift card, it will be added to your Samsung Pay Wallet.

Again, this is only open to Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners who make a qualifying purchase. It should be noted that customers using Bank of America debit and private label cards are not eligible for this offer. All other Samsung Pay-compatible cards will work.

For eligible customers, this is an easy way to score a gift card. It's not the first time we've seen a company offer a reward for those who use a mobile payments service. Google has offered several perks for Android Pay users, ranging from Best Buy gift cards to free songs and even to a free Chromecast for users.

Imgur App Gets A Very Divisive Interface Revamp To Material Design

Posted: 11 Mar 2016 08:56 AM PST

imgur-update

Despite how much we praise and love Material Design, it's not the be-all end-all of interfaces and it's definitely not unanimously loved. We've seen many users lament the waste of space, excess of white, and other aspects of the design language, but what's ultimately the most important factor in MD acceptance is how well the developers adapt it to their specific app. The Imgur team appears to have fallen on the wrong side of that equation and garnered the wrath of some of its users with the app's latest update.

AmpMe Adds Offline Mode Support And Auto-Join, Makes It Easier Than Ever To Stream Music Across Phones

When I took my first look at AmpMe, the app that turns your phones and tablets into multiple speakers for the same song, I applauded the app's interface, automatic sound syncing, SoundCloud implementation, and iOS support. However, a few missing features were holding it back (especially compared to SoundSeeder), namely the lack of local music and Google Play Music support as well as the requirement for an active and fast connection to stream everything.

We get it, some of you don't like Microsoft's apps. But there's no denying that the company has been doing a real kickass job on Android lately, updating its different applications and adding new and interesting features that either put it up to par with Google's offerings or make it leapfrog it by a few miles. I mean... did you hear that Microsoft Translator can now translate Klingon?

Well, here's a new feature that OneDrive is adding where it's just playing catch-up with Google Drive: the ability to scan a document or whiteboard and upload it directly as a PDF.

[APK Download] Google Slides Supports RTL Languages, Google Docs Gets Text Selection In The Print Layout View

If you're preparing a presentation in Google Slides, chances are that you're going to be doing it in your native language or your secondary one. If you speak Arabic or Hebrew, however, you were out of luck because the Android app didn't support RTL languages. Now that's changing since the Slides app on Android is able to create and edit presentations in RTL on version 1.6.092.07.

As for Google Docs, it recently got a new outline feature that helped you navigate long documents by surfacing the different section headlines whenever you started scrolling through the pages.

The HTC 10 Will Come In Four Colours

Posted: 10 Mar 2016 09:41 PM PST

HTC 10 Leak - 3

The HTC 10 has been leaking pretty steadily the past few weeks and we've got another leak to share with you.  Infamous leakster @evleaks Tweeted the above image which allegedly showcases the four colour options for HTC's next flagship device.  Starting in the top left and moving clockwise you have Carbon Gray, Glacier Silver (white face), Glacier Silver (black face) and Topaz Gold.  It's interesting to me that they made two silver versions with different colour fronts but I guess the more options the better?

HTC still hasn't officially set an announcement date but current rumour is that it'll take place in April with a launch possibly in May.  While I definitely think HTC made some great strides with the 10, I feel like it all might be overshadowed by their partnership with Google and the next Nexus'.
