PlayStation Video Now Streams Movies And TV Shows To Android Devices

Sony makes PlayStations. It's also a huge movie and music production company. In 2012 the company offered the Sony Entertainment Network as a means of giving PlayStation owners something to watch and listen to that didn't involve a third-party like Netflix. It was also available in countries that competitors like Hulu didn't support.

That platform eventually turned into the PlayStation Network, with the video portion becoming PlayStation Video. Now an Android app has made its way into the Play Store that provides access to the same content.

Ride-Sharing is getting a promotion. Starting today, the option will appear as its own dedicated tab inside Google Maps. Here it will sit alongside driving, taking public transportation, and walking.

The ride-sharing tab will attempt to pull up whichever options are available in your area. One example image shows Uber and 99Taxis in Sao Paulo. Google Maps displays the price of each option and how far away, in time, the nearest vehicle is.

Google Classroom for Android debuted just over a year ago as part of the free suite of software provided by Google for schools. The app, just like its browser-based counterpart, is a centralized place where students can access handouts, assignments, and news from all of their classes. On the instructor side, all of those same elements can be managed in addition to the convenience of teachers having the ability to work with all their classes at once.

Playtable aims to be the Netflix of digital board games

Playtable

At GDC I ran into a developer for Playtable, a concept table top touch screen console designed to play board games, card games, miniatures, RPGs and even video games. Instead of segregating gamers like the current landscape- this vehicle brings back that nostalgic feel of physically playing next to someone. In the demo I saw one... View Article

Uber Launches UberEATS App On Android, Users Are Uber-Annoyed

Posted: 15 Mar 2016 12:01 PM PDT

UberEATS_app_blog-header

Uber became a massive company by giving people rides, but now it wants to give your dinner a ride. After testing the UberEATS service in the main Uber app for a few months, the Android version of UberEATS is now in the Play Store. It's only available in a few cities right now, but the residents of those cities are not very happy with the service, judging by the early reviews.

The premise of UberEATS is that users will be able to order food from restaurants in their area that usually would not deliver.

JorSay For Android Wear Makes Your Phone Read Notifications Aloud With The Flick Of A Wrist

Posted: 15 Mar 2016 05:37 AM PDT

image (9)Developer Mocha17 noticed that if you count the wrist where you're actually wearing an Android Wear watch, you actually have to use two hands to access notifications. It's a fair point, and one that's solved with his custom Wear app, JorSay (Hindi for "aloud"). The idea is simple: when you feel a vibration for an incoming notification, shake your wrist twice, and your phone will speak the notification aloud using Android's built-in text-to-speech system.

It's not particularly known as a security company, but with the American government publicly demanding access to more or less all data on the planet, and other countries and less polite entities taking it without asking, the market is ripe to sell security products to wary consumers. Hence MailPlus, yet another secure and encrypted email system, this time independently hosted from a customer's Synology-branded NAS hardware.

A new game called ChemCaper is trying to do just that, and after a successful Kickstarter campaign, the first episode is now available on Android.

Google is launching a new collection in the Play Store that it will promote via banners and links called the Indie Corner. As the name suggests, it's a list of games created by indie devs.

Microsoft Brings Work Folders To Android For Keeping Your Company's Files Synced And Secure Across Devices

Posted: 14 Mar 2016 08:20 PM PDT

work-folders

Microsoft's Work Folders, which is for organizational accounts, allows you to sync work files across devices and access them while offline. For important internal documents, having employees using their own computers and phones to access them is a bit of a security nightmare. Work Folders is a compromise, adding some more protection—and convenience—to allow people to work with potentially sensitive information that is stored on an organization's server.

While this feature is well-integrated into Windows (as you might have expected), this is its debut on Android.

The LG G5 Will Cost $300 On Contract And $800 Outright

Posted: 14 Mar 2016 07:09 PM PDT

g5_evleaks

Last week LG had announced that their 2016 flagship, the LG G5, would hit Canadians on April 8, 2016.  At that time they let us know that all major carriers would be carrying the flagship but they left out once piece of key information, the price.

Well the mystery is no more as we now have pricing for the G5 thanks to Rogers/Fido.  Both carriers (although really they're just once carrier) have put the G5 up for pre-order.  So just how much will the G5 set you back?  Well if you opt for a contract, you can snag the G5 for $300.  If you're wanting to purchase the device outright, you'll be looking at $800.

While that is still a pretty hefty price tag, it is $100 cheaper than the Galaxy S7 and $200 cheaper than the larger Galaxy S7 Edge.

While we can't say definitely that other carriers will carry the same price tag it seems like a given.  So now that you know the price, what are you buying?  G5 or S7?

Samsung Will Release A Galaxy S7 Mini In Order To Rival The iPhone 7 SE

Posted: 14 Mar 2016 07:09 PM PDT

Galaxy S6 Mini - 4

If you've been following the news from *ahem* the other side, Apple is expected to announce a 4-inch "iPhone SE" by March 21st. But as always, Samsung has something up its sleeves.

According to a report from a source in Taiwan, Samsung is planning on releasing a Galaxy S7 Mini sometime this year in order to compete with this new mid-cycle iPhone release. While it's still very early, specs for the phone have been listed as follows: 4.6-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 820/Samsung Exynos 8890 SoC with 3GB of RAM and a 12MP camera with 3X optical zoom.

snapdragon_exynos

Already this sounds like a beast however some may not prefer a 720p screen on a phone in 2016, but then again, the iPhone SE may come with a 1152 x 648 screen just like the iPhone 5 and 5s.

Telus Marshmallow Updates Get Pushed Back

Posted: 14 Mar 2016 07:09 PM PDT

Telus Updates

Several Marshmallow updates were supposed to have dropped over on Telus but it looks like there will be some delays according to the latest update schedule.

The Moto X Play should have received its Marshmallow update back on March 9 but that date has now been pushed all the way back to March 21.  The S6 Edge+ and Note 5 updates aren't going to be as delayed but those dates have moved from the 13th of this month to the 16th.  The A5 has also been delayed slightly moving from the 20th to the 23rd.

Thankfully the S6 Edge and S6 are still scheduled for March 30 and April 13 respectively but as we see, these dates are never set in stone.
