Today has been pretty slow for updates, so far, but sometimes that's just how Google rolls. There is at least one notable feature from this morning's release of Photos v1.16, and it brings a neat little improvement to the built-in video player: fast forward and rewind buttons. There are also a couple of odd UI tweaks related to album sharing. A new bug also snuck into this version, so be wary.

These profiles group up to 10 people together. The process starts with one person creating a Family Profile and selecting the contacts they wish to add. Everyone who accepts the invite can then request rides and pay for them using the family payment method. Whoever created the group will receive a receipt for every ride.

Samsung Adds Its Music App To The Play Store, Currently Only Supported On Marshmallow

Samsung has added a new app to the Play Store, but it's not entirely new. This is a beta version of Samsung's music app, which it will apparently be updating via the Play Store from here on out. The only compatible devices we're seeing right now are Samsung phones running Marshmallow, but we've got the APK if you want to install it on another device. No promises it will work, though.

See ya, Safari! Photo: Killian Bell/Cult of AndroidGooglebot, the giant webcrawler that Google uses to scan webpages and update its index, is ditching its iPhone disguise to become an Android. Rather ironically, the tool has been masquerading as an Apple device running iOS 8.3 for years, but it will soon become a Nexus 5X running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to become more efficient. Microsoft is rolling out big updates to all three of its major Office apps for Android, with several overlapping improvements. The highlight is the addition of auto-save, a staple on desktop versions and frankly overdue on mobile with so many more opportunities for lost connections, unexpected battery drains, and other interruptions. In the same vein, Word and Powerpoint get real-time collaborative editing support, similar to what is available in the web apps and Google Docs.

LastPass Releases Its Own 2-Factor Mobile Authenticator App

Posted: 16 Mar 2016 10:01 AM PDT

img-lpauth-screen

LastPass is known for keeping your passwords safe, but these days a password sometimes isn't enough. That's why many services have implemented 2-factor authentication (2FA) to secure your account. Now, LastPass is getting into 2FA with its own authenticator app called (predictably) LastPass Authenticator. Please ignore the iPhone above. It's on Android too.

This app will, of course, work with LastPass. In fact, it's tied to your LastPass account. If you want to use the authenticator, you have to at least have a free LastPass account so you can turn on 2FA and scan the barcode to set up the app.

Appfour Continues Cramming Big Things Onto Tiny Watch Screens With Calendar For Android Wear

You can already use a browser, email client, and video player on Android Wear thanks to Appfour, and now you can check your calendar too. This dev specializes (apparently) in taking full-size apps and shoehorning them into the small form factor provided by Android Wear. Sometimes it's a bad idea, but it's at least good for a laugh. This one seems somewhat useful, though.

The main view of your calendar in this app is a full month, which doesn't show you much.

Raise your pitchforks and prepare to be outraged. Instagram is following in the footsteps of its big brother / master Facebook and working on switching its feed from chronological order to algorithmic. Maybe it was awed by how much love Facebook users felt toward that change in their feeds and it wanted a piece of the pie.

All sarcasm aside, there's an argument to be made about showing relevant posts first in social networks.

HTC M10 Camera Teased In New Tweet

Posted: 15 Mar 2016 09:40 PM PDT

HTC 10 Leak - 1

History tends to repeat itself many times, especially when it comes to HTC. The company's upcoming flagship smartphone has been leaked over and over again, similar to how the One M7, M8 and M9 were weeks before the unveil. As crazy as it sounds, HTC is still continuing to tease various features of the phone.

Today's teaser is about the cameras. Clearly if something is supposed to be a world first and world class, it must be the best. Hopefully this means that the HTC M10's camera will be even better than what its competitors currently offer. Specs for the cameras have been leaked previously and they are as follows: 12MP UltraPixel rear camera and a 4MP UltraPixel front camera.

Other specs include a 5.1-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820 with 4GB of RAM, fingerprint sensor and mircoSD card expansion.

The phone is expected to be announced next month.

Android N Is Referred To As New York Cheesecake Internally

Posted: 15 Mar 2016 09:10 PM PDT

New York CheesecakeNew York CheesecakeNew York Cheesecake

The Android N Preview has been out and about for nearly a week now and while the preview has given us a good look at what Android N will bring, we still don't have an official name.  We likely won't know the name till the official release but we at least know what N is stands for internally now.

Just like how other versions of Android had internal names that differed from the official name (KitKat was Key Lime Pie, Lollipop was Lemon Meringue Pie, Marshmallow was Macadamia Nut Cookie),  N has its own internal name and that name is New York Cheesecake.  So what does this tell us about the official name for N?  Well nothing really as history has shown us that the internal name has nothing to do with the official name.

One thing we can say pretty definitively is that the official name WON'T be New York Cheesecake.  What do you guys think N should be?

HTC 10 To Feature “World Class” Front And Back Cameras

Posted: 15 Mar 2016 08:55 PM PDT

HTC has been really working to generate some hype around their upcoming flagship, the HTC 10 and they're back with another little teaser.  This time around they are promoting their cameras which the companies CFO stated would be "very compelling"

The tag line is a little odd to me: "World First, World Class, Front and Back, You'll see."  The third fragment is pretty self explanatory; HTC is promising a solid camera on both the front and back.  The second fragment, also pretty self explanatory; HTC believes their camera will be able to hold its on with the big boys.  The first fragment is the puzzling one: "world first."  World first what?  Are they bringing in some new technology that the world has never seen?  Seems like a bit of a stretch but I'm at least a little bit intrigued.

As previously reported, the HTC 10 is expected to debut in April so I'm sure we'll get a handful more teasers between now and then.

But don't fret, there are plenty of cool little tweaks and improvements in this update, so keep reading.
