Supposed Developer Of ES File Explorer Returns With fooView, A Floating Button For Searching, Screenshots, Navigation And More

2016-03-21 21.06.50

You've probably heard of ES File Explorer before, even if you've never personally used it. The original developer of that app has seems to have resurfaced on XDA with an alpha app that you might want to check out. fooView runs a small floating button that you can use to get around the phone, take screenshots, and perform searches in a snap. Well, in a swipe, I guess.

After installing fooView, you'll have to enable a few system features to let it do its thing.

Samsung Gear S2 rumored to get iOS support by end of March

Posted: 21 Mar 2016 02:06 PM PDT

The Samsung Gear S2 may not be powered by Android, but it's still a pretty excellent smartwatch to use with your Android device. And for those who have an iOS device alongside their Android device (or just own an iOS device in general), the Gear S2 may soon work with your Apple-made phone, too.

It's not official yet, but rumors claim that the watch will be receiving an update with iOS support by the end of March, and an app will be released to the iOS App Store to connect and manage the watch. What features will be supported and how well it'll work is unknown. We know Android Wear support on iOS isn't always perfect, but hopefully Samsung has it figured out.

We're already near the end of March, so if the rumor is true, the update should be coming any day now. With the Apple Watch being expensive and fairly unattractive (my opinion, but not an outlandish one), the round Samsung Gear S2 might be very appealing to iOS fans.

[US only giveaway] Win a Neo smartpen N2, a device that stores your written words on your phone

Posted: 21 Mar 2016 01:50 PM PDT

There are many situations in which physically writing is so much more convenient than typing on your phone or your computer. Everything around us is becoming more digital, but nothing has replaced the pen and paper. A computer or phone just isn't fast enough or free-form enough for me to capture all my thoughts and ideas as I work or study. But how convenient would it be to be able to write with a pen and paper and automatically store all that information digitally? And on top of that, make that data searchable? This Neo smartpen N2 can do these things, and it does a pretty darn good job of not letting the technology get in your way.

The N2 smartpen is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, and it's been available to all for several months now. The N2 is simply a pen with a camera that watches what you're writing and passes it onto a mobile device. The camera watches at 120 frames per second and can also sense the pressure you're writing with. To work, the N2 requires special paper with Ncode technology, which includes tiny character patterns that tell the N2 and the companion app where you're writing. The pen uses Bluetooth to connect with Android and iOS devices.

Neo Smartpen N2-3We reviewed the N2 back in September and had a very positive experience with it. At the time of our review, the only option for getting paper was to purchase the special Ncode technology paper. Since then, NeoLAB has launched a program called "N Toaster" that allows you to use your own printer to produce Ncoded paper. That means that we no longer need to purchase the Ncoded notebooks or paper to work with the N2. This adds an additional convenience to using the Neo smartpen N2, especially if you need new paper in a pinch.

The N2 comes in two colors — Silver White and Titan Black — and will set buyers back $169. It's available from neosmartpen.com, or you can get it with free shipping in the US via Amazon. In addition to the pen, the special paper comes in several different varieties, and in my opinion, the cost isn't outrageous. For example, you can get a 5 pack of 100-ruled A4 paper pads for $21.90. I haven't used smartpen competitors like Equil and Livescribe, but the N2 seems very competitively priced for its smooth online and offline experience and features.

Overall, I've been impressed with the experience of the N2. The pen and app are super easy to use. I love that the app can convert written text into digital, searchable text, which is super convenient for going through your notes later. If you think a smartpen would be amazing for your schooling, business, or lifestyle, the N2 should be considered. It could even be a great gift for your gadget-obsessed loved one.

Now, it's giveaway time! One lucky Android and Me reader will receive a Neo smartpen N2 as well as an N professional notebook by entering through the different methods in the widget below. This is a US-only giveaway (sorry non-US readers!) and the contest will run through Friday, March 25th. Winners will be announced via the Gleam widget.

Best of luck with the contest! Let's give a big thanks to the makers of the Neo smartpen N2 for partnering with us for this giveaway. What are your thoughts on the Neo smartpen N2? What are you thoughts on smartpens in general? Do you think the N2 is missing any must-have features? Have an N2 and have thoughts you'd like to share on it? Let us know what you think by commenting below.

AT&T offering LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE for $99 on contract with purchase of LG G5

Posted: 21 Mar 2016 01:34 PM PDT

AT&T is giving a lot of love to LG today. On top of a BOGO deal with the LG G5, AT&T is also putting up a deal for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE. The Watch Urbane LTE is special in that it features NumberSync, which allows your watch to send messages, make calls, and more using your normal number even without your phone nearby.

If you buy an LG G5 through AT&T Next, you can get the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE for $99.99 with a two year contract. Otherwise, it's $18 a month for 20 months with $0 down. Either way, you'll need to pay $10 a month to add it to your Mobile Share plan, much like a tablet.

While contracts for a watch doesn't sound ideal, and the cost of entry for a NumberSync device is quite high, it's a very interesting new technology that might actually take off. Forgetting your phone might even be intentional some days, as your watch can take over a bunch of simple functions. Will anyone be picking one up?

For a Limited Time AT&T Offering Buy 1 LG G5 and Get 1 Free

DALLAS, March 21, 2016 — AT&T is offering you an early opportunity to purchase one of the premier smartphones of the year and get another one for free. AT&T customers can also take advantage of two exciting offers for these devices:

You can buy the LG G5 and get a second G5 free when adding a second line and buying both on AT&T Next. Similar to other BOGO offers, this offer is available to new and existing customers. The first phone can be a new line or an upgrade, but the second upgrade must be a new line purchased on AT&T Next 24.

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE is available for $99.99 on a two-year agreement when you buy a LG G5 on AT&T Next.

Here's how the BOGO offer works:

The latest version of Drive lets you dive into editing a file straight from the preview screen. This is thanks to a new floating action button hovering in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Tapping this button opens up the relevant editing app, such as Google Docs for documents, Google Sheets for spreadsheets, and Google Photos for, yeah, photos.

The ever-evolving Google Photos has another new feature, hidden in the recent 1.16 update: the app will now share slow-motion videos to other apps, such as Dropbox, Google Drive or Evernote and not mess up the timing. Videos have of course been exportable and shareable through Photos since the start, but this marks the first time a video with slow-mo frames can be exported without the whole video being converted into slow-motion, rather than just a section.

TalonBundledNotifications

Android N is going after the notification shade in a big way, and one of the primary examples is notification bundling. This feature expands an alert to show each individual new message recently received. The Hangouts 8.0 update shows this functionality in action.

Since an API is available for developers to tap into, third-party support is on the way. The latest Talon update is one such example. Version 4.6 provides support for notification bundling on Android N and Wear.

Pre-order the LG G5 from AT&T and get a second one for free

Posted: 21 Mar 2016 04:41 AM PDT

There are quite a few people who are planning to pass on the Samsung Galaxy S7 in favor of the LG G5. If that's you and you don't mind being on AT&T's network, you could get yourself two LG G5′s for the price of one. AT&T's LG G5 BOGO offer gives you $695 in bill credit over 30 months when you pick up a second LG G5 with an AT&T Next payment plan. Yes, you will need a qualifying line for the second LG G5 as well, but it's still an amazing deal if you and a family member are looking to get new phones.

With all the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge BOGO offers that have popped up over the past week, we wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint join in with their own LG G5 BOGO promotions.
