HTC Promo Video Leaked Just Ahead Of Announcement!

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 02:43 PM PDT

In case you haven't heard, another flagship device is going to be announced tomorrow.  Which device is that?  The HTC 10 of course!  HTC has been steadily teasing their new flagship over the past several weeks but I don't think this leak was part of their plans.  The above video appears to be a promo video for the HTC 10.  It's very likely that this is the video will be played as an intro to the event tomorrow.

So what new information does this latest leak bring to us?  Well nothing really.  The device has been so extensively leaked that there aren't a whole lot of mysteries left.  But the video does just give us another look at the overall design which, based on comments sections around the web, is pretty polarizing.  People seem to either love it or hate it.

In terms of internals, the HTC 10 is expected to pack a 5.1″ QHD display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable storage.  The primary camera is said to be of the 12MP variety while a 5MP camera adorns the front.  The phone also packs a USB Type-C port which we clearly see in the video.

Everything looks pretty good on paper and I'm really hoping that it delivers in real life.  It's been so long since I've used an HTC as my daily driver.  But maybe, just maybe, this will be the year!

Marshmallow For The Galaxy S6 Edge Has Begun Its Roll Out!

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 02:25 PM PDT

S6 Edge Marshmallow

Finally!  Finally Marshmallow is rolling out to the Galaxy S6, well at least one of them.  Galaxy S6 Edge users are reporting that an update has landed on their device today which brings their curved version of the S6 up to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.  Of course, this brings new features like Now on Tap and Doze among others.

Now if you've got the plain ol' flat version of the S6, it looks like you're going to have to wait a little while longer.  I have yet to hear of anyone getting that update yet but the Telus update schedule does have it listed for April 18 so if that's accurate, you'll be rolling in the Marshmallows next Monday.

As always, if you haven't received the update you can perform a few quick steps to do a manual check.  Go to settings, scroll down to about device, and do your manual check there.

Google Voice Access Beta lets you control your phone with your voice

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 02:25 PM PDT

Google is aiming for its products to be accessible to anyone, even those with disabilities. The company posted a blog post about its current improvements in accessibility, including putting display accessibility settings in the first boot set up screen of Android devices running Android N.

Another huge improvement its Google's new release of Voice Access Beta. The app lets you control your device using your voice, saying things like "scroll down" and "open Chrome." This is to aid those who have physical disabilities that impair using an Android device with touch. It can also be a useful tool for some individuals for hands free use.

If you want to give the app a shot, head over here to sign up for the beta program. How many of you, disabilities or not, would benefit from Android coming with voice control? Leave a comment!

LG Hi-Fi Plus module not coming to US, Canada, Korea, or Puerto Rico

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 02:25 PM PDT

One of the LG G5's main selling features is the modules that LG calls Friends. Two have been shown off so far: the LG Cam Plus (which adds manual camera controls, a grip, and extra battery life) and the B&O-branded LG Hi-Fi Plus (a DAC).

Unfortunately, it seems that the LG Hi-Fi Plus won't be coming to the US, Canada, Korea, or Puerto Rico. The biggest surprise is LG's own home country (Korea) not getting the accessory. Whether it's due to supply issues or certification issues (FCC issues have been rumored in the US) we don't know, but LG hasn't said anything but "we don't have an availability date set."

With the modules being such a big differentiating factor that seems to be the focus of the LG G5, one of the two main modules not coming to such big markets is a big deal. Can the LG Cam Plus alone entice customers? I don't think so.

OnePlus One Marshmallow rollout begins

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 01:55 PM PDT

The OnePlus One has been waiting on Cyanogen OS to release a Marshmallow build to start the update, and the day has come. Cyanogen OS 13 has left the nightly stage, and the rollout for the OnePlus One has begun.

With the Marshmallow update, you'll be getting features like Now on Tap, Doze mode to save battery, an official permission management system, and many improvements that should make your phone faster and smoother. And of course, you'll also be getting Cyanogen OS goodies.

The rollout will be staged, so random people will be getting the update in waves. Don't worry if you don't receive the update immediately, you'll get it eventually. Let us know when you do get it!

It was almost a year ago that Google posted the session list for I/O 2015 with an interesting "voice access" talk. That was eventually removed from the schedule and we didn't hear anything about it in Android M. Now, Google has announced Voice Actions as a beta in the Play Store (Android 5.0 and higher). Once you join up, you can install the app and literally control your entire phone by voice.

Quote, From The Developer Of Fenix, Is A Slick News Reader For Feedly And Inoreader

I've made Fenix my go-to Twitter client for a rather long time, and I'm not alone in that. That's the only app developer mvilla has released... until now. The second app from this dev is a feed reader with support for both Feedly and Inoreader. It has a very clean, minimalist design, and you can give it a shot for free.

RSS readers have a tendency to get bogged down with lots of buttons and menus, but Quote keeps things uncluttered with gesture navigation and a focus on text more than big flashy images.

Samsung Galaxy models across T-Mobile and Verizon receive updates

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 08:13 AM PDT

The update cycle is in full swing and today brings us updates for four different Samsung devices across two carriers. We'll dive right in with the T-Mobile devices. Beginning today, T-Mobile is pushing Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. After updating, users will see all the usual benefits of Marshmallow, such as Google Now On Tap, improved battery life with Doze, and improved app permissions. The update is roughly 1.3GB in size and is now rolling out.

On the Verizon side, a couple of different Samsung devices are receiving updates. First up is the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, which is receiving its update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In addition to the perks offered by the new version of Android, this update also includes the capability to use Wi-Fi calling and Verizon's Advanced Calling, which essentially includes HD Voice calls and video calls over Verizon's network.

Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is also receiving a minor update to solve some of the issues that have plagued it since its update to Marshmallow. This update solves the Wi-Fi troubles that users have been encountering, improving connection quality and reducing the likelihood of pages not loading.

All of these updates are now rolling out and are available as OTA updates. Drop a comment when you receive your update!

HTC 10 promotion video leaks ahead of tomorrow’s unveiling

Posted: 11 Apr 2016 04:47 AM PDT

With roughly 24 hours to go before the official unveiling of the HTC 10, the official promotional unveiling video of the phone has leaked. If you've seen leaked images of the HTC 10 in the past, the video doesn't reveal anything new.

As expected, the HTC 10′s design is a mix between the HTC One M7 and the HTC One A9. The phone does not feature front-facing stereo speakers, but multiple leaks have stated that the HTC 10 will sport stereo audio with one speakers on the front and another on the bottom edge. It's unclear if the HTC 10 will offer enough to draw people's attention away from the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge or the LG G5, but we're hoping that it allow HTC to pull out of the ruts it's been in there past few years and help the company steer back to profitability.

A few days ago, Google announced newly revised icons for its Play-branded apps. Newsstand was the first to emerge with the updated look, but aside from very minor tweaks to a few of the icons inside the app, there wasn't anything significant to be seen. The Play Movies & TV app received a pretty similar update, again with a few minimal icon changes and the new launcher icon, but there's actually something more interesting in the teardown: new rules about streaming paid content when it's shared in the family library.
