Google offering $50 off Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 02:22 PM PDT

Ushering in the weekend is a new deal from Google to save you a bit of cash on the company's two most recent smartphones. Starting today, April 15, and running through May 6, Google is offering customers $50 off when ordering a Huawei Nexus 6P or LG Nexus 5X through the Google Store. With that discount applied, the Nexus 6P starts at $449 and the Nexus 5X starts at just $299. If you're looking for a little more storage, you can use the discount on models with greater storage as well.

Both the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are great phones, and the Nexus 6P in particular still fares very well in a match-up against the latest flagships on the market. With the promise of speedy, stock Android updates for the next couple of years, both phones are set on the software side, making them attractive and affordable options. With the $50 you'll save, you can even pick up one of Google's new Live Cases.

Drop a comment below if you pull the trigger.

Posted: 15 Apr 2016 10:04 AM PDT

If you use Outlook as your email app of choice (or of obligation) and you sport an Android Wear watch on your wrist, you'll be happy to know that these two now work even better together.

The latest Outlook app, version 2.1.0, includes a new Wear app component that installs on your watch and allows you to check your unread emails and send template replies or dictate them. This goes even further than the simple notification interaction that was accessible before, as it lets you launch Outlook the watch even if you don't have an unread notification on your phone.

Google Play Music is launching Podcasts on April 18

Posted: 14 Apr 2016 07:08 PM PDT

Months back, we got word from Google that the company would be launching podcast support directly within Google Play Music. Well, that was back in October, and the company has maintained radio silence since then, with the only updates being random testing of the interface for some users. But today brings in new hope for those awaiting Google Play Music Podcasts. Android Police has received a tip showing an embargoed email from NPR to its members, which provided the news that Play Music Podcasts will be launching on April 18.

While we can't be absolutely sure on this date, it seems likely, considering the amount of time that's passed since Google announced the feature. Additionally, some customers have been able to test the new interface, showing that Google has continued to work on it in the background. With any luck, interested users will be able to access Play Music Podcasts by Monday.

We'll keep you informed if it does happen to launch on Monday. Stay tuned.

BlackBerry Priv Starts Received Android 6.0 Marshmallow Beta Update

Posted: 14 Apr 2016 07:08 PM PDT

If you recall last week when we talked about BlackBerry looking for testers for its Android 6.0 beta program, the company said it would release the update by the end of April to early May. However it looks like the company has fasttracked the release to get it out even earlier.

A very small subset of testers were notified by the company today to test the update. If everything goes well and no issues are found, the rest of the testers will get the update, which is expected to happen by the end of the week. Once the entire testing process is complete, the update will be rolled out to all BlackBerry Priv owners.

If you've signed up, check out the BlackBerry Beta Zone to see if you're selected.
