Moto X Pure Edition gets limited time $50 discount on Motorolas site

Posted: 20 Apr 2016 02:34 PM PDT

For anyone that has had their eye on the Moto X Pure Edition from Motorola but hasn't pulled the trigger just yet, a new discount may be enough to sway a fence sitter.

Motorola has announced that its Moto X Pure Edition is being saddled up with a $50 discount for a limited time only. The company confirms the deal will run until 11:59 AM ET on Monday, May 2. With the discount, the 16GB Moto X Pure Edition will run you $349.99. And since you're picking it up from Motorola's website, that means you can use Moto Maker to customize your handset's accent colors, back panel, front, and more.

If you want to bump up the memory to 32GB, that'll run you an additional $50, and going up to 64GB will ask of you $100 more. A wood or leather back will also cost $25 extra.

Do you think you'll take advantage of the deal?

Google News And Weather Will Get Some Much-Needed Integration With Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Soon

Posted: 20 Apr 2016 02:25 PM PDT

imageGoogle's Accelerated Mobile Pages is a neat idea system that automatically reformats an HTML web page into a light and speedy version ripe for consumption on mobile phones and potentially strained connections. It's a sort of mix between the old dedicated mobile sites (which are often broken and lacking in features) and the newer dynamic formatting (which can be too heavy for a phone browser even when written correctly). The AMP system has been going to a few months now, and Google claims that it has "thousands" of publishers on board.

Kittens are cute and fluffy, unless of course they are exploding. Exploding things are bad, as you will quickly learn in Exploding Kittens, a new Android game based on the card game of the same name. It comes from (among others) Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal. It's a fast-paced, friendly game of Russian Roulette, but with exploding cats in place of bullets. Don't have friends? No problem, you can play with strangers online.

Inbox by Gmail adds better ways to keep track of events read newsletters and more

Posted: 20 Apr 2016 09:44 AM PDT

Inbox by Gmail is actively trying to make the email experience better in general, and one way to do that is to help manage the emails we get every day.

The latest update brings three new features into the fold. The first of which focuses on keeping tabs on events saved to your calendar. Now, Inbox by Gmail will gather emails related to your event and bundle them together, while also letting the user select the event and see any changes that might have been made to it quickly and easily.

Inbox by Gmail events

The update also includes an easy way to preview a newsletter, and tap into the parts you want to read. Once you've read through the links you want to check out, the newsletter will automatically shrink to save you space in your inbox.

And finally, Inbox by Gmail will let you save links much easier than before, thanks to "Save to Inbox." Now you won't have to email yourself a link, but can instead simply save it to Inbox, which will then group all of your saved links into one place within the app.

The updated Inbox by Gmail should be available soon, both for Android and iOS users.

LeEco introduces three new smartphones without headphone jacks

Posted: 20 Apr 2016 09:44 AM PDT

As the race to make smartphones thinner races on, manufacturers have been looking for ways to make devices thinner. The fact of the matter is that smartphones, such as the iPhone 6s, couldn't physically be substantially thinner without ditching the classic 3.5mm headphone jack. Other phones have encountered the same issue and now, one Chinese manufacturer has been brave enough to be the first to ditch the headphone jack.

LeEco has just introduced three new smartphones, the Le 2, Le Pro 2 and the Le Max 2, which all come without a headphone jack. Instead they rely on the USB-Type C port, which is just beginning to be utilized as a digital headphone jack. Before these phones were announced, the only pair of digital headphones on the market was a partnership from HTC and JBL. To go along with the new phones, LeEco has also announced a pair of in-ear and over-ear USB-Type C headphones.

Le Pro (2)

Outside of the lack of a headphone jack, the phones are decent enough. Both the Le 2 and Le Pro 2 come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 3000mAh battery, 8-megapixel front-facing camera, fingerprint scanner and 32GB of storage. Both devices also have a 10-core tri-cluster MediaTek processor, though the Le Pro 2 has a faster variant. The Le 2 has a 16-megapixel rear camera, while the Le Pro 2 has a 21-megapixel rear camera. The RAM also differs, with the Le 2 packing 3GB and the Le Pro 2 bringing in 4GB.

The Le Max 2 is the highest-end of the bunch, offering a 5.7-inch QHD screen, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage, 8-megapixel front facing camera, 21-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, 3100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and tri-band carrier aggregation allowing LTE speeds of up to 325Mbps on compatible networks.

LeEco has priced the Le 2 at roughly $170 USD, with the Le Pro 2 coming in a bit higher at $230 USD. The beastly Le Max 2 starts at $325 for the base model and maxes out at $390 for the most powerful model. All three phones will launch in China initially, but LeEco plans to bring at least one of the phones to the US later this year.

You can find more pics from Engadget at the source link below.

What are your thoughts on these new devices?

Google Updates Play Store Accounts Screen With A New Design

Posted: 20 Apr 2016 09:06 AM PDT

pshero

The Play Store is, of course, a core Google app. While this time there's no version change, in the last 24 hours, a new server-side change to the app has begun to roll out, this time affecting the Accounts screen and how it is organized, making it clearer which setting belongs to which section.

The change segregates the different options into four categories: Payment methods, Subscriptions, Rewards, and Order history. Formerly, these were all in one large top-level category encompassing everything to do with your account, but Google has obviously seen fit to change this and make it a little easier to work out what is being looked at.

Samsung intros Pink Gold as the fifth Galaxy S7 and S7 edge color option

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 09:21 PM PDT

After initially launching with four color options, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge today gained a fifth.

Samsung has officially introduced Pink Gold as the new color for its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The Pink Gold phones will launch in Korea on April 20, and they'll hit other "select markets" soon. Unfortunately, Samsung didn't specify which markets those will be, so we'll just have to wait and see which other locales get these pink smartphones.

As for why it chose Pink Gold as the fifth color option for the GS7 and GS7 edge, here's what Samsung had to say about its decision:

Pink Gold was chosen as it, like the other colors available for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, is a natural color that provides a sense of comfort. These hues glitter and shimmer as if illuminated from inside their glass surfaces.

In particular, the refined, skin tone-inspired Pink Gold color scheme is intended to soothe and incorporate a touch of gentleness, radiance and sophistication to the smartphones' design.

Whatever the reasoning, Pink Gold is a bit more fun than the black, white, silver, and gold color options that the GS7 and GS7 edge are currently available with. This type of light pink color is also a popular color option among phone makers right now, with the likes of LG, HTC, Sony, Apple, and now Samsung all offering flagship phones in this type of hue.

Samsungs Good Lock Is Now Available

Posted: 19 Apr 2016 07:21 PM PDT

Good Lock

Want to spruce up your Samsung a little bit?  While why not try Samsung's new Good Lock.  Good Lock is a replacement lock screen that Samsung had launched a little while back on the S7 but made available for other devices today including the S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5.

The app replaces the default lock screen on the device and packs a bunch of additional features.  For example, the lock screen includes a customizable app drawer giving you quick access to some of your favourite apps.  Another one of the potentially more useful features is the ability to categorize notifications and set reminders to check them again later.

The app is only available through the Galaxy Apps app store and only works with the aforementioned devices.  It also require Marshmallow which has thankfully begun rolling out for the S6 so all the above devices should be fully compatible.

turretIt wouldn't be fair to call the Razer Forge TV a failure. No, that simply wouldn't be right. If I did that, I'd miss the opportunity to call it a half-baked, poorly-supported product that lags behind even the limited field of Android TV devices like a three-legged dog chasing a nitrous-powered mail truck. Almost a year after its US launch the set-top box is still inexplicably incompatible with Netflix, the promised PC game streaming software feature has disappeared, and even after being injected with the decrepit soul of OUYA the Forge is basically a dead platform.
