Twitter Adds A Message Button To Tweets, Wants Users To Share Tweets In DMs

For quite a while, Twitter has been trying to make Direct Messages a thing, and today the latest improvement has arrived: a direct message button in tweets. Whether this will make anyone actually share a specific tweet in a private message, who knows, but it's there anyway. Keep in mind this button only being added to Twitter's mobile apps; no word if it'll be added to the web app, or anywhere else for that matter.

HTC Hot Deal slashes prices on five devices

Posted: 05 Apr 2016 02:10 PM PDT

HTC is known for HTC Hot Deals, which it launches on Tuesdays with sales on one product or several. Some sales are better than others, with the products on sale ranging from phone cases to flagship smartphones. Today's HTC Hot Deal brings in price cuts for five different devices, including both the Nexus 9 and last year's flagship, the HTC One M9. Let's take a look at all of the sales that are happening today.

As you can see, some hefty price cuts are taking place, with customers now having the ability to score some of the lowest ever prices on certain devices. For example, if you're looking for an action camera, but a GoPro seems a bit out of your price range, you should check out the RE Camera, which features many of the same capabilities and is currently a fraction of the price.

The sales run through 11:59 PM PST tonight, so act quickly if you see something you like. And as always, drop a comment below telling us what you purchase!

April Android distribution numbers show Marshmallow doubling in growth

Posted: 05 Apr 2016 01:41 PM PDT

Another month brings us another round of Android distribution numbers. The Android distribution numbers for March 2016 showed us the beginning of a trend for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with the latest Android version doubling in growth after a long haul of slow growth. April 2016 shows that trend continuing, with Marshmallow doubling its growth from 2.3% to 4.6%, showing great growth for the OS.

Other numbers are largely similar, with no one version having a large amount siphoned off. Lollipop shrunk slightly, though the numbers shifted between 5.0 and 5.1, with 5.0 shrinking by about half a percent, which seems to have moved to Android 5.1 and Android 6.0. Both KitKat and Jelly Bean continue to shrink, though at a slow pace. Ice Cream Sandwich, Gingerbread, and even Froyo all remained largely the same.

With more and more devices receiving updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we should see that number continuing to grow. In the meantime, Google is already hard at work testing Android N, which is currently offered as a beta test to users willing to flash it to their devices. we're not expecting to see Android N officially launched for a fair while, so hopefully manufacturers can catch up on their Marshmallow updates in the meantime.

Check back in next month for a new report on May's Android distribution numbers!

WhatsApp

Staying private online is easier said than done, but a few services are popping up that promise to shield your conversations from prying eyes. The Signal messaging app, previously known as TextSecure, comes to mind. But the WhatsApp team has been working on securing its messages using some of the same code, and now, after testing things out last month, the service is ready to roll out end-to-end encryption to all users.

T-Mobile adds new Binge On and Music Freedom partners; launches tablet bundle offer

Posted: 05 Apr 2016 10:37 AM PDT

In March, T-Mobile added a handful of new partners to Binge On, which allows subscribers to stream content from select video providers without impacting their monthly high-speed data allotment. Now the magenta carrier is back with new additions to Binge On as well as Music Freedom, the music-specific streaming feature.

For Binge On fans, the service now supports content from Nickelodeon, DailyMotion, EPIX, OVGuide, OWNZONES, YipTV, Viki, 120 Sports, Spike, and TV Land. With these additions, Binge On now supports over 60 different providers, and you can find the full list of partners right here.

As far as music goes, here's the new additions to Music Freedom: Amazon Music, ESPN Radio, OHIO.FM, Chilltrax, Uforia, and PreDanz. That means Binge On now supports 40 different partners, and you can find that full list right here.

T-Mobile isn't quite done there, though. The carrier has also officially announced a new tablet bundle deal, which sees anyone that buys a flagship smartphone from Apple, Samsung, or LG on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) can get a tablet from the same brand for up to half off (up to $200 off). That will be available through a prepaid card, and it'll only be available for a limited time. The tablet deal kicks off on April 6.

Are you enjoying Binge On and Music Freedom?

Google Finally Launching Reminders For Calendar On The Web

Posted: 05 Apr 2016 10:15 AM PDT

Create Reminders on web

Google added reminder support to Google calendar late last year, but the feature felt oddly incomplete without full support for reminders on the web. That's a thing now, so you can create and manage reminders in Google Calendar on the web. It's not showing up for me just yet, but everyone should see reminders on the web soon.

Reminders in Google Calendar will work across devices, and now that includes your browser.

Chrome Remote Desktop's First Update In Months Adds A Material Interface And A Touch Mode [APK Download]

Posted: 05 Apr 2016 09:59 AM PDT

chrome-remote-desktop-49

Chrome Remote Desktop had been stuck on version 44 since July 2015, until an update rolled out today to version 49 (it follows Chrome's version numbers). With it come a few interface improvements that make the app a lot more Material and a new touch mode that creates a new interaction method with your remote desktop.

First things first, the main interface has now gotten a better title bar, a spec-compliant side-menu, and the color scheme has switched from a mix of blue and green to a more unified blue. You will also notice from my screenshots that computers now show their status if they have been offline for a while.

ASUS ZenFone 3 And ZenFone 3 Deluxe Press Renders Leaked

Posted: 04 Apr 2016 09:13 PM PDT

zf3_2

ASUS is expected to unveil the successor to its popular ZenFone 2 smartphone and apparently it just got leaked.

On a now-removed listing of the ASUS ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe, press renders for both phones were available for the public to view. However as with almost everything on the internet, once it's online, it will never be completely removed.

The ZenFone 3 sports a new aluminum design sandwiched by glass on the front and back. As for the cameras, the rear shooter has a lense that protrudes slightly and is accompanied by dual a LED flash alongside laser auto focus.

zf3_1

As for the Deluxe variant, this one is a lot more fancy as it features an all metal body and features a look similar to the newly released Galaxy S7.

Both Zenfone 3 phones will come with front facing LED flash and a USB Type-C port. More details are expected to follow as we near Computex 2016.
