T-Mobile is giving customers unlimited data to play Pokémon GO

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 02:47 PM PDT

T-Mobile has been paying attention to the biggest craze sweeping the United States (and the globe), and they believe they're in a perfect position to help all those trainers out there getting in on the fun of Pokémon GO. In honor of the global phenomenon, next week's T-Mobile Tuesday will include free, unlimited high-speed data for a year for Pokémon GO players.

It works in the same way that Music Freedom or Binge On do: When you play Pokémon GO, the data used won't count against your monthly high-speed data allowance. That means you can play as often as you want, and you won't see your high-speed data get eaten away by all that Pocket Monster catching.

There are other T-Mobile Tuesday bonuses, too, and they include a free Wendy's Frosty, a free Lyft ride up to $15, and 50% off select accessories.

All of the deals, including the unlimited Pokémon GO data, will be available on Tuesday, July 19.

Have you started playing Pokémon GO yet?

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 02:27 PM PDT

legerepuff If T-Mobile has proven anything in the last few years, it's that the company knows how to get the attention of new and potential customers. So it was only a matter of time before they seized hold of an increasingly global mobile gaming phenomenon. That's right, T-Mo's latest customer-friendly promotion is all about the Pokey Mans. Pokémon GO players on the network won't get dinged for any data used by Niantic's augmented reality game for the next year starting on Tuesday the 19th.

Pick up a 32GB Nexus 5X for only $234.99 for a limited time

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 11:59 AM PDT

Sometimes waiting for a deal, a really good deal, is the best way to buy a new smartphone. For anyone who has been waiting to get their hands on the Nexus 5X, Newegg may have the right deal for you.

The retailer is hosting a flash sale right now which is offering the 32GB Nexus 5X for only $234.99. The sale is being hosted on Newegg's dedicated Flash sale site, and both the black and white versions of the handset are available. Free shipping is included for good measure. The sale will run until Sunday, July 17.

The Nexus 5X has seen its fair share of deals lately, including the 16GB model dropping down to only $229.95. This deal is for the 32GB model, though, so it's certainly worth taking a second look at considering the 5X doesn't offer a microSD card slot for expandable storage.

Do you plan on picking up the Nexus 5X through this deal?

Posted by Jamil Moledina, Google Play, Games Strategic Lead

If you're an indie game developer, you know that games are a powerful medium of expression of art, whimsy, and delight. Being on Google Play can help you reach over a billion users and build a successful, global business. That's why we recently introduced programs, like the Indie Corner, to help more gamers discover your works of art.

To further celebrate and showcase the passion and innovation of indie game developers, we're hosting the Google Play Indie Games Festival at the Terra Gallery in San Francisco, on September 24.

This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your indie title to the public, increase your network, and compete to win great prizes, such as Tango devices, free tickets for Google I/O 2017, and Google ad campaign support. Admission will be free and players will get the chance to play and vote on their favorites.

If you're interested in showcasing your game, we're accepting submissions now through August 14. We'll then select high-quality games that are both innovative and fun for the festival. Submissions are open to US and Canadian developers with 15 or less full time staff. Only games published on or after January 1, 2016 or those to be published by December 31, 2016 are eligible. See complete rules.

We encourage virtual reality and augmented reality game submissions that use the Google VR SDK and the Tango Tablet Development Kit.

At the end of August, we'll announce the group of indies to be featured at the festival.

You can learn more about the event here. We can't wait to see what innovative and fun experiences you share with us!

Motorola didn't say how much built-in storage is available, but there is a microSD card slot to expand the storage.

The Moto E3 will be available in "early September" in the U.K. and it will retail for £99 (about $132) from select retailers including Amazon, Argos, and Tesco. Alcatel launches the Idol 4S, pre-orders begin July 15

Posted: 13 Jul 2016 09:02 PM PDT

Alcatel is a company that doesn't readily come to mind when discussing the U.S. smartphone market. That being said, the company is the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the U.S., showing that it has more reach than many realize. Alcatel has a great a deal of budget and mid-range devices, but it's beginning to bring its higher-end options to the States. The Alcatel Idol 4S is one of those high-end devices, and we now know when it's coming stateside.

Following its announcement of the device in February, Alcatel has now said that the Idol 4S will open for pre-orders in the U.S. on July 15 at 11:00 AM EST. These pre-orders will be part of a bundle that includes VR goggles, a tempered glass screen protector, JBL headphones and an Incipio protective case. That entire bundle will be available for $349.99 during the pre-order only. Official orders begin on August 3, and the Idol 4S will be priced at $399.

While the Idol 4S is largely the same as it was at the time of announcement, there is one notable change. Alcatel has added a fingerprint sensor to the rear of the device, putting it on par with many modern flagships. Customers will still get the 5.5-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 652 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera and more.

Alcatel is adding a great product to its lineup, but it remains to be seen if it will be a success within the U.S. Alcatel has staked its claim in the budget market and the Idol 4S may not fare quite as well with the company's customer base. If it does perform well, we might just see Alcatel giving ZTE a run for its money.
